Anthropic opens verification for life sciences teams

Anthropic opened applications for its Life Sciences Verification Program, following early access involving dozens of organisations. The beta allows eligible research teams to use adjusted biology safeguards after checks on their credentials, security practices and ethical oversight.

Standard verification applies to a team for one year. Work assessed as higher risk requires more detailed review and project-specific approval lasting six months. Access is available through Claude Team, Enterprise and Anthropic's own API, rather than individual subscriptions or third-party platforms.

The programme changes selected biology restrictions while leaving other protections, including cybersecurity safeguards, in place. Anthropic retains relevant data for 30 days for monitoring and says it will not use it for training. Participation therefore combines broader research access with continuing institutional verification and oversight, rather than removing safeguards across a verified organisation's activities.
