OpenAI discloses its NextSlide acquisition
OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup that turned notes, prompts and research documents into polished, editable presentations. The deal closed earlier this year, but the companies only made it public this week, with NextSlide's founder Ahmed Beshry writing that the announcement was coming "a few months late." Financial terms were not disclosed.
NextSlide's entire team has joined OpenAI, where they are now working on ChatGPT rather than continuing to build their standalone product. The acquisition follows a pattern of small, quiet acqui-hires through which OpenAI has folded document, spreadsheet and now presentation tooling directly into its chatbot, rather than leaving those tasks to separate apps.
Rivals are racing to build the same office-suite features natively into their own assistants, so owning the presentation layer outright matters less for the technology than for keeping users inside ChatGPT for one more everyday task.
