Trump confirms meeting with Anthropic CEO

President Donald Trump confirmed plans to meet Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei after the AI executive called for stronger safeguards around increasingly capable systems. Trump said the United States should not slow development because doing so could weaken its lead over China.

Trump said he believed the US was around 18 months ahead in AI and again dismissed recent agent incidents as a reason to pause progress. His position contrasts with Amodei's call for more outside evaluation and with separate comments from Bill Gates urging lawmakers to establish stronger safeguards.

A meeting between the White House and a frontier-lab chief puts the disagreement inside the policy process. It does not resolve the central dispute over whether safety measures should remain voluntary or become enforceable requirements.
