US forms AI task force led by Clayton
President Donald Trump announced a new federal artificial-intelligence task force and named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to lead it. The group, called the Super Intelligence Force by the administration, is intended to coordinate AI work across the federal government and bring together officials responsible for competition, defence, personnel and national security.
The task force has a 120-day mandate to assess AI's risks and opportunities and recommend how the government should respond. Its remit also includes federal incident response and possible policy changes, while the group is expected to seek input from technology companies and other outside organisations.
The move creates a central federal coordination point for AI policy as the administration emphasises rapid domestic development while facing pressure for clearer safeguards around increasingly capable models.
