Arbitrum pauses new Stylus contract activations
The Arbitrum Security Council executed an emergency action that temporarily stops new Stylus contract activations on Arbitrum One and Nova. Existing active Stylus contracts continue to run, and ordinary Solidity and EVM deployment is unaffected.
The same action added a permissionless guard around Arbitrum One's BoLD one-step proof. If two conflicting answers are both accepted where only one should pass, anyone can use the guard to pause settlement to Ethereum while the council investigates and deploys a fix.
Arbitrum said known Stylus bugs primarily threaten chain liveness rather than user funds, and no attack prompted the pause. The measure is therefore preventative: it restricts a deployment path while preserving existing contracts and normal EVM activity.
