Dango winds down three months after mainnet launch
Dango is winding down. The team said in a public post that despite its best effort, various reasons had led it to conclude there is no viable path to lasting commercial success. Trading on its perpetuals exchange halts on 29 July at 12:00 UTC, with remaining positions settled at oracle price, DLP vaults unlocked and funds returned as USDC. The Dango layer 1 blockchain shuts down on 13 August.
Founder Larry Liu cited a shrinking cash runway, legal and compliance delays, departures from the team and broader market conditions. The project raised $3.6 million in seed funding in November 2024 and launched its mainnet in early April 2026. It suffered a $1.9 million exploit against its insurance fund on 13 April. Total value locked stood at $1.77 million when the wind-down was announced.
Running an application-specific layer 1 underneath a product that has not found demand means paying to secure a chain the product cannot justify.
