Ether leads the overnight crypto rebound
Ether rose 2.62 percent to about $2,507 in the 24 hours ending at midnight UTC on Thursday. Bitcoin gained 0.62 percent to roughly $79,012, according to KuCoin's daily market snapshot.
The stronger move in ether reversed some of its previous session's underperformance. Bitcoin remained below the $80,000 area it had recently crossed, leaving the market's rebound short of a return to those highs.
US stocks offered little direction, with the Nasdaq down 0.08 percent and the S&P 500 down 0.02 percent in the preceding session. The dollar and Treasury yields had strengthened while lower oil prices offered some relief on energy costs.
The overnight move shows crypto finding buyers in a mixed wider market. One stronger session for ether, however, establishes a rebound rather than a lasting change in leadership.
