SEC cancels planned vote on Regulation Crypto

The US Securities and Exchange Commission cancelled an open meeting scheduled for August 14, at which its three commissioners were due to vote on whether to formally propose Regulation Crypto, a framework of tailored registration and fundraising exemptions for crypto asset offerings. The agency cited an unforeseen scheduling issue and did not announce a replacement date.

The meeting had only been added to the SEC's calendar on August 10, giving four days' notice rather than the usual week. Its cancellation is the latest setback for crypto-specific rulemaking at the commission, and comes as the CLARITY Act remains stalled in the Senate, with its next procedural test not expected until September.

A vote this close to its scheduled date getting pulled, with no new one set, says more about the commission's own process than about the substance of the rule it was due to consider.
