An epilepsy prototype connects EEG monitoring to patient conversations
A Nature Medicine study published on October 13 connects scalp or intracranial EEG to a secured language-model system that communicates through a smartphone app. The inpatient prototype was evaluated in 13 people undergoing epilepsy monitoring.
The system shares information about events and trends, records symptoms and uses patient feedback to adapt seizure detection. A pseudoprospective simulation found that feedback could improve detector precision without expert intervention.
The finding concerns a supervised prototype and simulated adaptation, rather than a validated autonomous epilepsy-management service. Its interesting contribution is the feedback path: patients can help a sensing system interpret the events it records.
