SEPhIA models a tiled electro-photonic spiking architecture
A paper published on October 23 introduces SEPhIA, a tiled architecture combining electronic spiking neurons with microring modulators and multiple optical wavelengths. Shared waveguides carry the signals between modeled neuronal units.
The authors evaluate device behavior and network performance through electronic-photonic co-simulation and neural-network modeling. They examine spiking dynamics and the crosstalk that appears when neighboring wavelength channels interact.
This is numerical architecture validation, not a report of a manufactured full-scale processor. The distinction matters because fabrication, packaging and measured power can expose constraints that compact device models do not capture completely.
