ORCA launches its PT-3 photonic quantum system

ORCA launched PT-3 on October 15, with the first system operating alongside NVIDIA computing at Digital Realty's London innovation lab. The two-rack photonic accelerator is designed for hybrid AI and optimization workloads.

The company reports improved designability in a protein-generation experiment and progress on a large energy-scheduling benchmark. Those comparisons concern specific models, baselines and runtime conditions; they do not establish an advantage across quantum computing generally.

The installation is useful because it gives researchers a system to test in a data-center setting. Independent, end-to-end comparisons remain important when judging how much of a workload's benefit comes from the quantum component.
