Koç University demonstrates light-assisted AI computation

Researchers at Koç University described an approach that uses light to perform selected computations traditionally carried out by power-hungry electronics. Their work explores optical processing as a possible way to reduce the energy burden of AI systems.

Photonic components can move or transform information efficiently, but integration with memory and electronic control remains a central challenge. The result is experimental research and not an energy-efficiency guarantee for a complete data-center model.
