Anthropic ships Claude Opus 5
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 today.
On FrontierBench v0.1 it scores 43.3 percent at maximum effort, against 37.5 percent for OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol, which shipped two weeks ago on July 10. Pricing is $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens.
Two other releases landed the same day. DeepSeek V4 moved to stable, with V4-Flash priced at $0.14 and $0.28 per million tokens, roughly two orders of magnitude below Opus 5. Moonshot AI is pursuing a Hong Kong listing at a $50 billion valuation.
The clustering of releases continues a pattern from earlier in the month, when GPT-5.6 Sol and Grok 4.5 launched on the same day.
The figures were recorded at maximum reasoning effort, a configuration costlier and slower than typical production settings, so the gap does not translate directly to deployed performance.
