Meta introduces Muse as a personal AI agent

Meta introduced Muse, a personal AI agent that works through its own app and WhatsApp. Each user gets a dedicated cloud computer with a browser, allowing the agent to continue tasks and retain the information needed for ongoing work.

A separate system called Sentinel checks actions that connect the agent to the internet. Meta says Muse asks before taking consequential steps such as sending an email or making a purchase, while users control which applications they connect and what the agent can access.

The company says Muse data will not be used for Meta advertising and offers a training opt-out. Stronger encryption that would prevent even Meta from accessing the cloud computer is planned for later in the year.

A persistent computer gives an assistant continuity between requests. It also makes the rules governing access, retained data and external actions central to the service.
