OpenAI releases GPT-6.1 Terra

OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, describing it as a fast, efficient model for visual reasoning, computer use and writing. It is available through the Responses and Chat Completions APIs, with a rollout also underway in ChatGPT Work and Codex.

These tasks test different kinds of reliability. Reading a screenshot, choosing the correct control and producing clear prose cannot be reduced to one headline score.

For computer use, a particularly useful test is whether the model notices when an action produced the wrong state and recovers without compounding the mistake. Release claims establish the intended workload; observed task completion establishes how well it serves it.
