Fogo halts mainnet after foundation token theft

Fogo halted its mainnet on Saturday after an attacker obtained 400 million FOGO from the foundation. The tokens represented roughly 10 percent of circulating supply, according to The Block's reporting.

The foundation initially disclosed the compromise on Friday evening and said the chain itself was unaffected. The subsequent halt was intended to prevent further movement of the stolen tokens while validators prepared an upgrade restricting the affected addresses.

The sequence leaves two separate questions: how the foundation lost control of its tokens, and how a network should respond once those tokens are circulating. The initial statements did not establish a flaw in the protocol itself or give a confirmed restart time.

An emergency pause can contain damage. It also puts the power to stop and restart a chain directly in view.
