Cronos pauses after a Tectonic exploit

Cronos halted its network on Sunday following an exploit involving Tectonic, a lending protocol on the chain. Initial reporting cited a researcher estimate of roughly $75 million, with the final loss and attack details still under investigation at that stage.

The suspected sequence involved a sharp manipulation of TONIC's price, followed by borrowing against inflated collateral. Some funds had already been bridged to Ethereum, making the distinction between positions on Cronos and assets that had left the network important.

Crypto.com's chief executive said the company's app and exchange were unaffected. That statement concerned those services; it did not resolve the exposure of users interacting with the lending protocol.

The incident made containment the immediate priority. Establishing what could be recovered required a fuller accounting than the first headline estimate.
