Circle outlines its approach to quantum migration

Circle outlined its quantum-security planning, describing a tracker that compares demonstrated quantum-computing capability with published estimates of the resources needed to attack elliptic-curve signatures. The company says the tool links its data points to original research.

The update emphasises coordination across blockchains, wallets, libraries and hardware. A network's choice of replacement signature scheme affects the tools its users need before they can move assets into new accounts, making migration more involved than replacing one cryptographic function.

Circle said Arc supports SLH-DSA functionality but has not selected its final post-quantum transaction-signature scheme. Transactions still use ECDSA, with a hybrid approach planned to preserve compatibility while the design matures.

Support for one post-quantum primitive does not establish that an entire network is protected. The harder task is accounting for every place where existing cryptography remains in use.
