Solana moves unsupported-program checks earlier in deployment
Solana's latest engineering update describes work to move an unsupported-program check into the CLI. The change prepares for SIMD-0500, which would reject deployments compiled to older sBPF versions.
Today, discovering a mismatch after upload can waste time and fees. Checking locally moves that failure earlier in the process, before the user commits resources.
The update describes work in progress. Developers should distinguish the proposed protocol restriction from a tooling change that helps them prepare for it; neither should be assumed active simply because it appears in a changelog.
