CorTec reports four-year cortical electrode recordings in animals
CorTec reported more than four years of recordings from micro-ECoG arrays in non-human primates. The company describes data presented at September's Graz BCI conference, with 63 of 64 contacts still recording in the ongoing animal.
The arrays rest on the dura rather than penetrating brain tissue. That makes durability a distinct question from the performance of intracortical electrodes or the decoding ability of a complete interface.
Long-lived signals are encouraging, but the evidence remains animal data reported by the manufacturer. Human usability, surgical outcomes and communication performance need to be assessed separately.
