EU adds 14 crypto platforms to its sanctions package

The European Union added 14 crypto platforms to its sanctions package. Separately, the number of companies authorised under MiCA has reached 244.

Circle registered under MiCA rather than withdrawing from the European market. Tether did not, and its token has been removed from several European venues as a result.

The two developments reflect a single approach: an expanding set of authorised firms alongside active exclusion of platforms operating outside the framework.

Other jurisdictions moved in the same week. The UK approved its final trading platform regime, Russia's digital asset rules take effect on September 1, and Argentina is considering a bill permitting investment funds to hold Bitcoin.

Licensing and enforcement advancing in parallel raises the practical value of authorisation for firms inside the perimeter.
