Market up 1.7 percent with sentiment at extreme fear

Crypto market capitalisation reached $2.31 trillion after a 1.7 percent gain, on $68.99 billion of volume. Ethereum opened at $1,903.35, up 1.7 percent from Monday, and Bitcoin traded around $65,100.

The Fear and Greed Index read 25, within its extreme fear band, while prices rose.

The stablecoin market showed a 0.1 percent decline over 24 hours at a capitalisation of $303.9 billion, on $59.5 billion of volume.

In Washington, a House Financial Services subcommittee held a hearing on FinCEN oversight, with the OCC's comment deadline on GENIUS Act stablecoin rules falling later in the same week.

Prices advancing while sentiment sits in extreme fear is more often associated with short covering than with new allocation.
