Bitcoin steadies near $64,000 as sentiment sours
Bitcoin opened at $64,680, down slightly from the previous session; ether opened at $1,871, up about half a percent. Price moves were narrow, but sentiment fell further: the Crypto Fear and Greed Index dropped to 29, into the index's 'fear' range.
Congress supplied part of the backdrop. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which the House passed in 2025, sets federal rules for whether a digital asset is regulated as a security or a commodity; the Senate version, advanced out of committee in May, was due to reach the floor that week, with passage still dependent on winning over enough Democratic votes.
A fear reading well below neutral against essentially flat prices points to traders positioning for a move rather than reacting to one that has already happened.
