Bitcoin tops $65,000 as crypto market nears $2.3 trillion
Total cryptocurrency market capitalisation climbed to $2.3 trillion, up around 1.7 percent over the previous day. Bitcoin traded above $65,000, roughly 1.5 percent higher, while ether rose about 4 percent, outpacing bitcoin and narrowing its price relative to the larger coin.
The move came as broader risk appetite improved: a second consecutive day without escalation between the United States and Iran helped push oil prices down, and traders in equities and crypto alike pared back hedges. Attention was also turning to the Federal Reserve, which meets on July 28 and 29; officials are widely expected to hold the federal funds rate at 3.50 to 3.75 percent rather than move in either direction.
A hold that markets expect rarely moves prices on its own; the sharper signal is whether this week's risk appetite carries into the meeting or fades before it.
