Strong jobs report pulls bitcoin below $80,000
Bitcoin fell below $80,000 on Friday after the US economy added 162,000 jobs in August, well above economists' forecasts. Unemployment remained at 4.1 percent, according to the figures reported by Decrypt.
The sell-off reversed part of a rally that had carried bitcoin above $82,000. Stronger hiring complicated the case for leaving interest rates unchanged, with September rate-hike odds rising to 58 percent in Decrypt's snapshot, from 49.4 percent a day earlier.
Other assets also reacted. The Dow fell 226 points and gold declined, making the move a broader repricing around monetary policy rather than a crypto-only event.
Thursday's relief had rested partly on the prospect of softer economic data. Friday supplied the opposite, showing how quickly a rally built around the next central-bank decision can lose its footing.
