Europe's neurotechnology ecosystem moves towards scale
A Neurofounders review estimates that Europe is home to 141 neurotechnology companies, around 38 percent of the global companies in its startup map. The continent combines a large research base with growing policy attention around brain health, neural data and the commercialisation of neurotechnology.
The European Partnership for Brain Health is expected to mobilise about €500 million over ten years, while the European Innovation Council has a dedicated brain-technology portfolio worth €37 million. The same review found Europe attracted only 11 percent of disclosed neurotech funding in the first half of 2026, despite its larger share of identified companies.
Those figures come from ecosystem mapping rather than an official census, and company count does not establish clinical adoption. Europe's harder problem is increasingly the path from research into trials, reimbursement, manufacturing and routine use.
