BlueWind wins dedicated code for tibial neuromodulation implant

BlueWind Medical said the American Medical Association's CPT Editorial Panel approved a Category I code for subfascial implantation of a tibial neuromodulation device. The code takes effect on January 1, 2028 and replaces the tracking-code approach used for the procedure today.

BlueWind's Revi system is implanted under the fascia near the tibial nerve at the ankle and receives power from an external wearable transmitter rather than an implanted battery. In its OASIS study, the company reported a 79 percent responder rate among participants who completed the 36-month visit and 95 percent patient satisfaction.

A Category I code gives clinicians and payers a standard way to identify the procedure in claims. It does not set a Medicare payment rate, guarantee insurer coverage or add a new clinical indication, all of which remain separate from the coding decision.
