NeurotechEU prepares a wearable EEG and fNIRS hackathon

NeurotechEU's wearable-neurotechnology hackathon begins its online phase on October 29–30, followed by an in-person program in Nijmegen in November. Participants will design experiments using EEG, functional near-infrared spectroscopy or both.

The two methods observe different aspects of brain activity: scalp electrical signals and slower changes associated with blood oxygenation. Combining them creates opportunities but also requires careful timing, preprocessing and interpretation.

The program emphasizes acquiring data and evaluating a practical application. It is a training event, rather than an announcement that a particular wearable can already diagnose a condition or reliably decode a user's intention.
