Alice & Bob reports three cat-qubit demonstrators
Alice & Bob published results from PROQCIMA's first phase on October 20. The company reports three operational cat-qubit demonstrators built and tested under France's government-backed quantum-computing program.
Cat qubits use a physical encoding intended to make one important kind of error much less likely, reducing part of the burden on error correction. Other error channels and the wider control system still matter to a protected computation.
PROQCIMA's longer-term target is industrializable universal prototypes. The reported demonstrators are steps along that development path, rather than evidence that the program's eventual logical-qubit targets have already been reached.
