Telefónica and IQM plan a quantum computer for Madrid

Telefónica and IQM announced a deployment for the Community of Madrid on October 23. An IQM Spark system is planned for Universidad Politécnica de Madrid before the end of 2026.

The system is aimed at research, education and early application development. Direct access can help local teams learn calibration, execution and experimental constraints that are less visible when they work only with simulators.

The announcement is a planned installation. It should not be counted as an already operational system or evidence of quantum advantage for a regional industry. Its near-term value is access to hardware and the skills needed to use it.
